About

This site is a meeting place for people to hear stories about women’s ordination in the Lutheran Church of Australia/New Zealand.

A place for the sharing of individuals’ personal journeys and dreams. A place for stories of melancholy, reflection, and aspiration.

But most of all this site is a place of hope, as we look towards the Word being preached and the sacraments administered by any called member of our church, regardless of gender.

Our Mission Statement: To help bring about the ordination of women in the LCANZ by the sharing of personal stories and meditations.

The story of the Woman at the Well is from John 4. This passage is surely the most incredible and inspiring account of Jesus’ inclusiveness and empowerment in all of the Gospels. Jesus meets a Samaritan woman when he is resting at Jacob’s Well after a tiring journey. They have a long discussion – actually the longest between Jesus and anyone recorded in the Bible.

Why are these verses relevant to Women’s Ordination in the LCANZ?

  • A well is a central meeting place to share stories and meet people. This website will also be a central meeting point for the sharing of stories.
  • The Samaritan woman is alone – she has been outcast from society. There is a sense that women have also been “cast out” of the ordained roll of pastors in the LCANZ.
  • She is seeking, and trusting in God’s promises. We seek and trust that God will bring about women’s ordination.
  • She is so transformed by her interaction with the Messiah that she convinces many of her neighbours from the town with her testimony. We would also like to convince others of our message with our personal testimony.
  • She is the one who conveys the message, but the Word does the work to convince the people that He is the Saviour of the World. In a similar way, we want to share the message that the Word speaks to our church through called individuals, regardless of gender.

It is our hope that Women at the Well will be a place for the thirsty – both readers and contributers – to drink and be nourished.
