Praying Around The Clock

An invitation to join a 24 hour prayer room between Pastor’s Conference and Synod

Often the New Testament urges us as Christians to ‘pray continually.’ But what does that really mean? The NT is often written in the plural but we read it in the singular. To pray continually must be a team sport! No one person can do this on their own.

We are inspired by the story of the 24/7 prayer movement, which has seen a global movement of prayer night and day for 25 years. The 24-7 prayer website explains, “A 24-7 Prayer room is a creative prayer space that enables a chain of unbroken day and night prayer, bringing friends, communities and churches together to seek the presence of God.”

A group of intercessors from the LCANZ recently organised a week of prayer in an ‘online prayer room’ where we endeavoured to cover a whole seven days with prayer. While we did not cover every one of the 168 hours of the week with prayer, we covered the vast majority of them! There was a beautiful sense of community as we shared pictures, prayer requests, bible verses, and insights into what we believed the Holy Spirit was calling us to.

We are now organising an in person 24-hour pre-synod prayer room to pray for the LCANZ and for Synod.

You are invited to join us for an hour or more, in person, if you can!

The prayer room will be hosted at St John’s Lutheran Church Unley, just across the road from Concordia College, where General Pastor’s Conference and General Convention of Synod are being held.

The aim of the prayer room is to spend time in God’s presence, to seek the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, to worship God, and to pray for God’s will to be done in and through Synod. This prayer room is not organised to pray for particular outcomes of Synod decisions as such, but to really seek God and his will.

The prayer room will run from 9am on Thursday 3rd October through to 9am on Friday 4th October. More than one person can sign up for each hour, but we hope we will have people praying in person for the whole 24-hour period. You can sign up for an hour of prayer (or more) here.

The prayer room will include spaces and resources for creative expression of prayer, art, prayer suggestions, some chairs and tables. The prayer room is accessible through an external door to the church complex, and will be signposted so you can find it!

On the Thursday evening, a worship service including music led by Robin and Dorothy Mann will be on in the St John’s church. If you sign up for the prayer room during these times, you may wish to continue the chain of prayer by joining with the worshiping group, or you may wish to stay in the prayer room and pray personally there.

If you would like to sign up, please head on over to the sign-up calendar on the website.

If you’d like to talk more about this prayer room, or hosting a 24-7 Prayer Room of your own, please get in touch!

May God bless us as we ‘pray continually.’

In Christ

Pastor Nathan Hedt
